Outreach Free Clinic and Resource Center (formerly Brandon Outreach Clinic) was established in 1987 by a group of concerned individuals in the Brandon Community to create a way for uninsured individuals to access health care. Lacking financial resources to purchase medical care many of these uninsured individuals were going without treatment or were seeking health care in the emergency room. In addition to physicians and nurses, the planning group was composed of pharmacists, social workers, clergy, attorneys, and bankers. Their vision was to create a safety net for uninsured individuals who were falling through the health care gap.
After two years of planning, fundraising, and establishing a grassroots network of providers, the clinic opened its doors in April 1989. Staffed entirely by volunteers, the clinic first started seeing patients one evening each week.
Over the years, the clinic engaged other partners and entered into collaborative efforts with other medical providers who were also committed to serving this vulnerable population. The clinic has been able to expand its hours of operations and is now seeing patients 4 days a week both in-person and through virtual appointments.
Serving all of Hillsborough County, Outreach Free Clinic and Resource Center provides both acute care and basic primary care. In addition, we also provide preventative care that includes health screenings, well-woman exams, and health education. The clinic has also expanded its services to assist patients find additional resources and services that are available to them.
